The Galaxy Note 20 series was one of the first Samsung devices to receive the May SMR (Security Maintenance Release). The rollout began for the last Note-series devices on the very first day of May. The unlocked units in the US picked up the new security update first. A week later, the update reached the devices in several other markets across the world. Today, the carrier-locked variants in the US are joining the party too. As of this writing, the May security update for carrier-locked Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is available to users on T-Mobile and Sprint networks. The new firmware version for the phones is N98*USQS2FVE6. The rollout should expand to other networks within a few days. The May SMR is also now rolling out to the carrier-locked Galaxy A53 5G in the US. The new premium mid-ranger started receiving this month’s security patch a couple of weeks back. US units also soon picked up the new update but the rollout was limited to the unlocked variants. Not anymore. According to a SamMobile report, the carrier-locked variants of the galaxy A53 5G are now receiving the May SMR on AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile’s networks in the US. Other carrier variants will also soon join the party. The updated firmware version for the phone is A536USQU2AVD5. The new software package should bring some camera-related optimizations to the premium mid-ranger. This is in addition to around 50 vulnerability fixes that are part of the May SMR.
Samsung has already released the June security update
Samsung’s impressive pace of releasing new security updates ahead of time continued for one more month. The company has already begun rolling out the June SMR, as many as 12 days before the start of the new month. The Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G has the distinction of picking up the new security patch first this time around. But if you’re using a carrier-locked Galaxy Note 20 or a carrier-locked Galaxy A53 5G in the US, you should be getting the May SMR soon. Watch out for a notification in the coming days if you haven’t already received the new OTA (over the air) update. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone.
