The August SMR for the carrier-locked Galaxy S10 units in the US comes with firmware version G97*USQU6IVH2. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, users on T-Mobile or Sprint networks should be receiving the update over the air (OTA). The update should also make it into devices on other carrier networks in the coming days. Samsung has yet to release the September SMR. So the August patch is the latest available for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It contains fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities from Samsung and Google. The latter patched a critical issue that allowed an attacker to remotely execute code on an affected Android device (from any brand) over Bluetooth. Patches from Samsung only concern issues on its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Korean firm last month fixed around 30 such vulnerabilities, many of which were labeled critical on its security bulletin. Affected device components include Samsung DeX, Knox VPN, App Lock, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, Dialer, and others.
Galaxy S10 phones are getting these security fixes in the US
All of these security fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy S10 series in the US, starting with carrier-locked variants. International versions of the phones have already received the August SMR. The update doesn’t bring any notable new features or improvements. Perhaps the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ will not receive feature updates anymore. Launched with Android 9 Pie onboard in early 2019, they have already picked up the three major Android OS updates Samsung promised. The phones aren’t eligible for the company’s extended software support policy that gives four years of Android updates. So no Android 13 for them. Nonetheless, if you’re using any of these smartphones in the US, the August SMR should be headed your way soon. Watch out for notification in the coming days.
