The Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update for the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the US comes with firmware version G781USQU9GVK8. As of this writing, units on US Cellular networks are only picking up the new release (via). But it should just be a matter of time before Samsung expands the rollout to the remaining wireless carriers and also covers the unlocked models. This update brings a host of new features, changes, and improvements to the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. Samsung says One UI 5.0 is its most refined custom software yet. It has improved the aesthetics of its Android skin with bolder app icons, an improved color scheme, smoother animations, and new customization options. Simultaneously, it has added tons of new features for users to explore and enjoy.
The Galaxy S20 FE 5G is also getting this month’s security patch
The Android 13 update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the US also brings the December security patch. The latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) from Samsung contains no less than 80 vulnerabilities. While not all of those exist on every Galaxy device, the majority do. The new security patches a handful of critical vulnerabilities, some of which could lead to remote code execution. If exploited by bad actors, such security flaws enable them to remotely take over an affected device without the victim’s knowledge. The December SMR also patches dozens of high-severity flaws, including a few Galaxy-specific ones. If you’re using the Galaxy S20 FE 5G stateside, the latest update for your phone will keep you safe from all of these vulnerabilities while also giving you plenty of new features to play with. But as usual, Samsung will release the OTA (over the air) package in batches. So you may have to wait a few days to receive the update. You should get a notification once available. Samsung also allows you to manually check for updates, though. Open the Settings app, go to the Software update menu, and tap on Download and install. If you don’t see any pending updates, wait a few days and check again.
