The Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be pricey
According to tipster Sudhansu Ambhore, Samsung will price the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at €1,879 and €1,999 for the 256GB and 512GB storage option, respectively. That’s a jump of up to €100 from last year. The two storage variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 debuted with price tags of €1,799 and €1,899, respectively, in the European markets. This report contradicts a few previous ones. Most notably, Steve H. McFly, aka OnLeaks, claimed that Samsung will keep the price of the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 4 unchanged (at €1,799) while the 512GB option would cost €20 more (€1,919). It followed a report from South Korea that said the company is willing to take a hit on its profit margin to ensure an unchanged price or at least a minimal hike. This is specifically for the Fold lineup, though. Both reports suggested that the Flip series would see a bigger hike (up to €70 in Europe). However, the latest report is now claiming a flat €100 jump for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as well. The new clamshell foldable will reportedly retail for €1,149 (128GB), €1,199 (256GB), and €1,329 (512GB). Note that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 topped up at 256GB of internal storage. The new leak also mentions that Samsung will price the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro at €229. This figure matches some of the previous rumors. We’ll have to wait for the confirmation, though. Thankfully, the wait would be just about two days long now. The Korean firm will launch the new Galaxy products on August 10. Until then, we advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt.
These price hikes may take a toll on Samsung’s foldable ambition
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event has unsurprisingly become the talk of the tech town lately. The big launch event will take place on August 10, with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldables being the biggest attractions. Much has been said about improvements that the new models would bring to the company’s foldable lineup. The devices have been subject to a myriad of leaks over the past few months and, based on those, there are a lot of things to talk about. But despite all the upgrades the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 bring to the table, Samsung’s hopes of making foldables mainstream may not get a huge boost this year because of the pricing. Consumer spending on smartphones is already declining. So, it would be tough to find enough buyers for a €1,799 phone that isn’t as durable or powerful as the much cheaper Galaxy S22 Ultra, for example. Time will tell whether the Korean firm can achieve its target of doubling foldable sales this year.
