In today’s update, Google is rolling out a new library tab, that is going to make it more sortable. Google Photos is updating the layout to show a grid that you can quickly filter by type (that includes albums, shared albums, favorites, on-device folders) and then sort. Google is also making it easier to organize photos and albums that are not in Google Photos. Below the Album Grid, Google is also adding a new “import photos” section alongside Locked Folder, Utilities, Archive and Trash. So you can easily bring in photos from other service, digitize them, or move photos from a camera.
Spring cleaning the share tab
Today, Photos is also announcing that it has tidied up the sharing tab. Photos has created sections for partner sharing, shared albums and conversations. There is now more defined sections, making it easier to find, view and manage your shared photos and videos. That way you can stay up to date and never miss the latest snap. These new updates are rolling out this week on Android and coming soon to iOS. Finally, Google is also allowing you to do more with your screenshots. If you’re using an Android device where your screenshots are saved to their own device folder, you can keep your gallery tidy by not backing up that folder. So your screenshots will be kept separate from the rest of your memories. But you may still want to access those screenshots, so Google is adding a shortcut that will appear at the top of the screen to take you right to the screenshots folder. These are pretty small updates in the grand scheme of things for Google Photos. But definitely needed. We expect to see more updates coming at Google I/O in May.
