What does Moto G Pure bring to the table?
The pricing for Moto G Pure is set at under $160. So it fits squarely in the budget category of Android smartphones. But “budget” doesn’t necessarily mean “cheap.” For the money, Motorola is packed with a slightly more powerful and efficient processor, the MediaTek Helio G25, than the $199 Moto G Play. That octa-core chipset is also backed by 3GB RAM and 32GB of microSD card-expandable storage. And that’s the same as found in its pricier counterpart. That and a claimed up-to-two-day 4,000mAh battery is packed into a 6.5-inch display too. Although that’s just a 720p touch panel, the device is rated at IP52. This means the Moto G Pure can handle being out in light rain and similarly wet scenarios. Which is a claim that many competing gadgets, at the very least, don’t boast. Conversely, around the back of the Moto G Pure, Motorola includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. That’s coupled with a 2-megapixel camera for depth sensing. A 5-megapixel sensor for selfies can be found around the front, tucked in a “U”-shaped waterdrop notch. Of course, Motorola indicates that its well-known pack-ins for the camera are present here as well on the software side. Namely, Spot Color, Auto Smile Capture, and Smart Compose. All powered by the company’s AI.
Pricing and availability
Now, all 4G LTE bands are supported by the Moto G Pure. But the company was kind enough to include a chart on its page outlining which networks won’t be supported. Namely, those are Sprint, Tracfone (CDMA), Straight Talk Wireless (CDMA), and Xfinity Wireless. Aside from those networks, there’s also no 5G support — which is sorely missed in 2021. Anybody who wants to pick up this phone for free will need to wait until October 14 to buy from Verizon. That’ll also require a new line with a 24-30 month payment plan. Meaning that buyers through Verizon will need to commit to the carrier for that period. Metro by T-Mobile is slated to have a similar offer while other carriers will be a few months further out.
