According to the report, the Galaxy S21 series is receiving the latest security update with the firmware version G991BXXU3AUIE. We don’t have a changelog handy to confirm the contents of the new OTA (over the air) package. However, judging by the build number, there could be more than just vulnerability fixes for the next month. Talking about vulnerability fixes, we don’t yet know what issues have been fixed with the October SMR. Samsung has yet to publish the new security bulletin. Perhaps October has yet to arrive. We will likely get to know these details early next week.
Galaxy S21 series gets the October security update
Samsung has made a habit of releasing the latest security update to its devices even before we flip the calendar to the new month. This trend has been going on for several months now and it’s no different this month as well. The October SMR has arrived while we are still in September. The Galaxy S21 series has had the distinction of picking up the new update first but it should only be a matter of time before other Galaxy smartphones and tablets join the party. But if you’re holding a Galaxy S21 phone, you can expect the latest update to hit your device sooner than later if it hasn’t already. And downloading the OTA update is fairly easy. You know the drill: navigate to Settings » Software update » Download and install and you’re all set. If an OTA update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it on the next screen. You might also receive a notification with the same prompt once the update becomes available for your phone. Launched with Android 11-based One UI 3.1 earlier this year, Samsung is currently testing the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy S21 series. The stable One UI 4.0 update will likely arrive before the end of this year.
