The OnePlus 10 Pro did not pass its durability test
This has been a weird year for OnePlus’ main flagship line of phones. The OnePlus 10 Pro launched with no word on the regular OnePlus 10. We’re all still wondering if we’re ever going to actually going to see a regular OnePlus 10 at all. Also, we don’t know if we’re going to see the OnePlus 10 Pro in the States. Adding to the chaos, Zack from Jerry Rig Everything put the OnePlus 10 Pro through its paces, and it did not end well for the phone. In his videos, he scratches the screen, carves up the back with a box cutter, burns the screen with a lighter, and finally bends the device with his bare hands. The last section is what people really wait for. During the bending portion of the video, Zack was able to bend the device completely in half with his hands. When I say “bend,” I mean that he practically turns it into a folding phone. Zack was able to bend the phone in half with what seemed like very little force. Bending from the front, he was able to crack the back glass, but bending from the back is what caused the phone to become unusable.
Why did it fail the test?
In the YouTube video, the phone snapped right below the camera module. After a quick teardown, Zack concluded that the point between the camera module and the battery cell is the prime weak spot in the phone. Both the camera module and the battery added rigidity to the phone, but between them, there was nothing to really take the force. However, he left his views with this sentiment: “One broken phone doesn’t make a brand bad forever. Oneplus can pick up the pieces and come back with a more solid phone next year.”
The OnePlus 10 Pro is still a good phone
If you’re not turned away by the video (and by the fact that it’s not available in the USA) you will still be able to order this phone. It has a 6.7-inch 1440p+ AMOLED display that can run at 120Hz. It has 8GB/12GB of RAM and both variants have 265GB of onboard storage. The OnePlus 1o Pro is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Soc with the Adreno 730 GPU. This phone has a 48MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. Keeping the lights on is a 5,000Ah battery. If you want to buy one of these phones, it’s expected to cost around $1,000. The company says that open sales will start this spring, so stay tuned.
