We’ll try to give you a good idea of what each of them has to offer, so that you can make a better decision. Their software builds are vastly different, as many of you know, and we won’t exactly go into comparing iOS and Android, of course. Having said that, We’ll first list the specs of these two smartphones, and will then move to their designs, displays, performance, battery life, camera performance, and audio output.
Specs
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Design
Both of these phones look quite sleek, but also entirely different at the same time. Both devices have very thin bezels, and glass backplates, but that’s basically where similarities end. The OnePlus 10 Pro has a lot more curves than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It has a curved display, while both its front and back side are curved to be proportional. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, has entirely flat front and back sides, while it’s also flat all around its sides. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has uniform bezels, and a pill-shaped cutout on the display. The OnePlus 10 Pro has extremely thin bezels, but they’re not entirely uniform. There is a display camera hole in the top-left corner of this phone’s display. Even their rear camera setups look entirely different. Apple’s flagship has a camera island, with a recognizable look, and three cameras there, plus a ToF 3D sensor. The OnePlus 10 Pro also has three cameras on the back, but its camera island protrudes from the frame, well, at least it looks like it is. The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a stainless steel frame, while the OnePlus 10 Pro utilizes aluminum. Both phones are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and both have mute sliders on them. The difference is, the iPhone’s is a two-level slider, while the OnePlus 10 Pro also has a vibration level on there, so it’s a three-level slider. The OnePlus 10 Pro is a bit taller, and a lot narrower, while being slightly thicker. It is considerably lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, though, at 201 grams compared to 240 grams of Apple’s handset. Both phones feel premium, but also entirely different in the hand. Apple’s flagship will cut into your hand a bit more, while the OnePlus 10 Pro feels a bit more slippery, even though it’s more comfortable to hold. Don’t get me wrong, though, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is also very slippery.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Display
The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch 2796 x 1290 LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. This is a flat display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports HDR10 content, and Dolby Vision, and it gets immensely bright. It gets up to 2,000 nits of brightness, which makes it the brightest smartphone display out there. This panel has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and comes with scratch-resistant ceramic glass on top.
The OnePlus 10 Pro includes a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3216 x 1440) LTPO2 Fluid AMOLED display, which is curved. This panel also has a 120Hz refresh rate, and it supports HDR10+ content. It can project up to 1 billion colors, by the way. This panel gets up to 1,300 nits of peak brightness, and it’s protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus. We’re looking at a 20:9 display ratio on the OnePlus 10 Pro. You can’t really miss when it comes to these two displays. Both are truly excellent. Both are extremely vivid, quite bright, have excellent viewing angles, and are really smooth as well. They also have great touch response, and quite frankly feel great to use. The blacks are also quite deep on both. The iPhone 14 Pro Max does have the advantage of a brighter panel, though, in case you use it in direct sunlight frequently. There’s also the preference between flat and curved displays, it’s up to you.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Performance
In regards to performance-related hardware, these two phones are really well-equipped. The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with the Apple A16 Bionic SoC, 6GB of RAM, and NVMe storage. The OnePlus 10 Pro is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, while it packs in up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 flash storage. All that results in a great performance on the two phones. The SoC inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max is more powerful, while the RAM and storage aspects are technically on the OnePlus 10 Pro’s side. Optimization has a lot to do with it, of course, plus iOS 16 and Android 12 (with OxygenOS) that come pre-installed on these two phones, respectively. Both setups work extremely well, that goes for both everyday tasks, and gaming. They can handle pretty much anything you throw at them. We didn’t notice any noticeable lag, or anything of the sort. Both phones perform admirably, and get warm during intense gaming sessions. That is to be expected, though.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Battery
The iPhone 14 Pro includes a 4,323mAh battery, while the OnePlus 10 Pro comes with a 5,000mAh unit. Do not pay much attention to the difference in size here, as the two OS’ consume battery differently. Having said that, both phones offer stellar battery life. No, we’re not exaggerating here. We were able to get over 8 hours of screen-on-time out of the OnePlus 10 Pro, without gaming in the mix, though. In regards to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the situation seems to be quite similar. All in all, even if you’re a heavy user, each of these phones should be able to provide you with a full day’s worth of battery life. Even if you game a bit, you should be fine. Now, what if you do run out of juice ahead of time? Well, the OnePlus 10 Pro has you better covered than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, that’s for sure. Why is that? Well, the OnePlus 10 Pro offers 80W wired, 50W wireless, and reverse wireless charging. The iPhone 14 Pro Max goes to max 23W charging, with its wired charging. It does support 15W MagSafe wireless, and 7.5W Qi wireless charging as well. Needless to say, it charges much slower than the OnePlus 10 Pro. On top of that, the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not come with a charger, while the OnePlus 10 Pro does.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Cameras
Both of these phones have quite compelling camera setups, and they do perform well in that regard. The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. On top of that, there is a ToF 3D LiDAR sensor on the back. The OnePlus 10 Pro has a 48-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. On top of that, it has Hasselblad’s backing and color tuning.
The OnePlus 10 Pro did have some issues with overexposing at first, but OnePlus did fix that via updates. That is the company’s tendency, the cameras on its flagships are good, but after a couple of updates, they do become great. The same is the case with the OnePlus 10 Pro. Its colors are usually pretty good and realistic, and reds especially look great. It does a great job with portrait mode, and has a very solid ultrawide camera. Switching between the two cameras is a bit choppy still, though. The iPhone 14 Pro Max does a great job in general. It does have a tendency to blow out the highlights from the time to time, though, and over oversharpen a bit. That’s something Apple will likely tune via an update. It has an excellent RAW mode, and does a great job with slow motion. Its ultrawide camera keeps the same colors as the main camera, and the switching is seamless. The iPhone 14 Pro Max also handles video better, it’s likely the best video camera around.
Audio
If you were hoping to get an audio jack on at least one of these phones, that’s not the case. Neither one includes it. You will have to rely on Bluetooth 5.3 / Lightning port (iPhone) and Bluetooth 5.2 / Type-C USB (OnePlus). Both phones can provide quite compelling sound through both wired and wireless connections. What they do have is stereo speakers, and in both cases, they’re quite good. They’re not the best we’ve ever heard, but they do definitely sound flagship smartphone-level. They’re well-balanced, get quite loud, and are quite sharp as well.
