Galaxy Watch5 Pro features a massive battery
Samsung’s smartwatches have gotten better with each new generation, but battery life has always been below par. Things got worse on the latest models, the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic. The Korean brand switched to Google’s Wear OS platform from its in-house Tizen OS and that didn’t help with battery efficiency. It appears software optimizations won’t be enough to improve the battery life of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series. The company is now looking to address the problem by increasing the battery capacity on this year’s models. There has been enough evidence of this over the past few weeks. Certification listings have already revealed the battery packs for both size variants of the Galaxy Watch5 series and they confirm notable improvements in capacity. The smaller (40mm) variant will get a 276mAh battery, up around 12 percent from a 247mAh unit on the Galaxy Watch4 last year. The 44mm variant will also switch from a 361mAh battery to a 397mAh one, an increase of 10 percent in terms of capacity. However, that’s not all that Samsung has in the plan. The company is also mulling a “Pro” Galaxy Watch5 model with a humongous 572mAh battery. That’s more than double that of the smaller Galaxy Watch4 variant. Such a big battery would certainly make the device huge. So Samsung may be looking to make an outdoor adventure watch here. That said, the publication says the Galaxy Watch5 Pro isn’t 100 percent confirmed yet. If things don’t go as per plans, Samsung may even scrap the idea. But if this device exists, we should hear more about it in the coming weeks and months. We will keep you posted.
The Galaxy Watch5 series could go official in the second half of 2022
Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch4 series in August last year. We are now expecting the company to introduce the 2022 refresh of its smartwatches around the same time this year. The Galaxy Watch5 series could accompany the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 foldables in August. Time will tell whether the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will be part of the pack too.
