The latest update for unlocked units of Samsung’s three-year-old Galaxy Note models in the US comes with firmware version N97*U1UEU7HVF1. According to the official changelog, this update contains the June SMR and some additional stability improvements. The new SMR patches more than five dozen vulnerabilities affecting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more. Some of these vulnerabilities were found to have the potential to cause “critical” damages to users if exploited in the wild. As for the said stability improvements, Samsung doesn’t go into details about what has changed. The company’s changelogs haven’t always told the whole story. That said, we aren’t expecting major new features here. The Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ arrived with Android 9 on board in August 2019. They have since received updates to Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12. The phones won’t get major Android OS updates anymore, and possibly no feature update either. Nonetheless, the Galaxy Note 10 duo will continue to receive security updates at least until August 2023. If you’re using either of these phones in the US, one such update is headed your way. Watch out for a notification in the coming days. You may also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply select the Software update menu and tap on Download and install to check if an OTA (over the air) update is available. If you don’t see any pending updates, check again a few days later.
Samsung has already started rolling out the July security update
Some Samsung devices may still be awaiting the June security update, the company has already started seeding the July SMR to some others. The Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy A23, and Galaxy A32 have picked up the latest security patch so far. It will soon reach other eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets too. Samsung has yet to detail the content of the July SMR, though. It should contain dozens of vulnerability fixes but we don’t have precise information. We will let you know once the company publishes its updated security bulletin with details about the July patch.
