Project Manager at Samsung Electronics, Chang Wan Kim, detailed what the teaser/animated short was about in a press release (via). “We wanted to create a short film that expressed our gratitude to the fans who have always supported us and have stayed ‘together’ during the pandemic,” Kim said. Although no specific timeframe was offered, the press release notes that a “small but powerful gift from Exynos” is coming “early next year,” hinting at the official arrival of the Exynos 2200. Since the Galaxy S22 lineup is expected to launch by February, this can only mean a January 2022 unveiling of the chip.
The AMD GPU on the Exynos 2200 will support features like ray-tracing and VRS
For the uninitiated, the Galaxy S22 series will be available with Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets depending on the market. Benchmark scores have offered a good idea of what to expect from the latest Snapdragon silicon. But that’s not the case with the Exynos 2200. Some tidbits of information aside, there’s not a lot to go on right now. Much like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the recently unveiled MediaTek Dimensity 9000, the Exynos 2200 will also utilize 4nm nodes and the latest ARM Cortex-X2 CPU core. Early reports say the chipset would use a similar CPU core arrangement as its rival 4nm chipsets in the market. This includes one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 CPU cores. There’s also the highly anticipated AMD GPU underneath enabling features like ray-tracing, HDR gaming, and Variable Rate Shading or VRS. This is an area where the Exynos 2200 could have a significant advantage over its contemporaries. The upcoming Samsung chip would also offer support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, and an integrated 5G modem. For the camera enthusiasts, the Exynos 2200 can enable 4K 120fps and 8K 30fps video recording. Moreover, it can support sensors of up to 200-megapixels. Customers may have to wait slightly longer for the Galaxy S22, according to renowned tipster Jon Prosser. The upcoming flagship smartphone lineup was previously said to be launching by February 15. However, the tipster said the company could push it by at least a week due to supply chain-related problems.
