Xiaomi intros the Mi Pad 5 family of tablets, its first tablets since 2018
It has been over 3 years since the company announced a tablet. The Mi Pad 4 launched back in June 2018, and it was released that very same month. It was about time the company offered something new in the tablet department. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro are both quite powerful, though the ‘Pro’ model has more to offer. The two devices look the same, so keep that in mind. Speaking of which, they’re made out of metal and glass, and are actually quite boxy. Their sides are flat, and they do remind us of Apple’s iPads a bit because of that. They are easy to differentiate, though, as the back side looks completely different.
A 120Hz display is included on both tablets
So, let’s get into the specs, shall we. They both feature an 11-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. HDR10 is also supported, and the same goes for Dolby Vision. The Mi Pad 5 is fueled by the Snapdragon 860 SoC, while the Mi Pad 5 Pro utilizes the Snapdragon 870 processor. Both devices have a variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Do note that the Mi Pad 5 has LPDDR4X RAM, while the Mi Pad 5 Pro offers LPDDR5 RAM. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro also comes in a variant with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Android 11 comes pre-installed on both tablets, with MIUI 12.5 on top of it.
The Mi Pad 5 Pro offers 67W fast wired charging, wireless charging is not supported
The Mi Pad 5 includes an 8,720mAh battery with 33W fast wired charging support. The Mi Pad 5 Pro comes with an 8,600mAh battery, and offers 67W fast wired charging. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 offers four speakers, while the Mi Pad 5 Pro has eight of them. Both devices support Dolby Atmos, and have a Type-C USB port at the bottom. In regards to the cameras, both devices have an 8-megapixel front-facing unit. The difference lies on the back. The Mi Pad 5 includes a single 13-megapixel camera on the back. The Mi Pad 5 Pro has a 50-megapixel unit back there, plus a 5-megapixel depth camera. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 measures 254.69 x 166.25 x 6.85mm, and weighs 511 grams.
